Shape and Space- Measure It
This is an activity for students to practice measurements using non-standard units. It's a fun way to get students up and out of there desk searching in the classroom or hallway for objects to measure. Some measurement tools could be unifix cubes, paper clips, or you could even have the students make paper links. These are all non-standard units. Students could choose a desk, locker, table, etc... Once the students have chosen an object they will make an estimation and then measure away. This activity helps students understand what non-standard units are. It also helps the students to make estimations on measurements. Teachers are required to teach students all of these things in grade 2 math according to the curriculum, outcome SS2.1.
